Dell laptop charger - short life
Inspiron 15 3511
I have used Dell laptops for a very long time and love them. they are reliable and my last one lasted over 10 years - which is a long time for me. There's only one issue i have with them and that's the charger.
I think i must have bought 5 or 6 chargers for the last one. Either the cord at the connection frays, and i tape it or i strengthen it or what ever, and finally, need a new one.
Or the connecter that plugs in is fried.
I've had my new laptop for almost 2 years and i'm amazed that my cord hasn't begun fraying!
But this week - the connector is lousy. i have to either set the plug into the laptop just right to get my little white charging light to come or or it is just dead.
Why is there such a short life on these chargers. I do not abuse my laptop like many...it stays home. plugged in most of the time, in the living room.
And yet, i have to spend $40 for a new charger.

It is hard to say. I've had Dell notebooks for over 20 years, and I haven't had any AC Adapter failures. But we all are different and have differing situations.
Cable fraying, for the most part is caused by wrapping the cable to tight around the adapter. Dell improved designs and in the most recent AC Adapter designs, the cord wrap and adapter design were changed to reduce or eliminate the cord fraying.
You didn't mention the type of connection. 7.4 mm Barrel, 4.5 mm Barrel or USB Type-C. The current fault where you describe having to connect a certain way generally alludes to a damaged DC IN or USB Type-C jack in the computer.
Dell is constantly striving to improve the durability of our systems and our power connections.

Sad to hear this about dell but its been 4 years i have been using dell laptop latitude e5450 nothing has happened to its charger till now its its charging fast and working greaterly
you might monitor your sockets where you plug your charger there might be any sparkle or shortage
and you might also check voltages too of your resedence electricity is it enough for the charger or not?
