Studio XPS 435 MT, graphic card upgrade
Please recommend an inexpensive video card for the XPS 435 MT computer. The current card is a Sapphire HD 5750 1 GB DDR5. I would like to buy a card with similar capabilities without paying too much. The current card is having problems.

I suspect an RX 560 is a good replacement. Comparison here http://gpuboss.com/gpus/Radeon-RX-560-vs-Radeon-HD-5750 There are a lot of used ones available on eBay as miners are dumping them. That being said it is possible your system is overheating. the 435mt cannot use the cooler running xeons like the 435t/9000. I have an xps-435mt motherboard in an Apevia uATX cube case and had to cut a hole in the plastic side for air to get into the video board. Even with liquid cooling for the CPU, i7-950, it ran terribly hot causing problems with my gtx-1060. The nVidia GTX-1050ti is similar to the RX-560 in that neither of them require a separate power cable. What do your temperature monitoring program report? I use tthrottle.
[EDIT] FWIW, today I replaced my 435mt with an MS7593 and a low power zeon and discovered a bad capacitor on that 435mt. It was not visible under the liquid cooler/fan assembly.

I am using the 435MT with a Sapphire 6750 which is also not available anywhere.
One example website featuring this card (OOS) https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102939
When I ran into problem with the GPU, I took the fan shroud out and used a hair dryer to heat up the chipset and some parts of the PCB. System ran for few days and then it was the same issue - display would flicker and then it would freeze as if GPU has crashed.
This cycle repeated a couple of times. After a couple of times, there was time when the computer refused to boot as if there is no GPU. In my final attempt, I used the hair dryer for a much longer time.
It has been 3-4 months and I have not run into issues yet. I put an external 15 Watt fan to cool the system when I have a heavy usage (e.g. Adobe premiere). My left panel has been removed for better air flow.
Sorry I cannot suggest any alternatives where you don't need to upgrade the PSU as well.

The space down at the bottom of the computer is cramped. I/O wiring snakes in places where it interferes with most two slot graphic cards. Cooling is definity a problem. I only managed to get a AMD HD7850 2gb in removing the fan cover. But I did get an EVGA Nivida geforce GTX 970 ssc 4gb to fit rather neatly. I imagine an EVGA 960 can fit in just as easy. The drawback is it's an older model. Most are used cards but still available. You can find the 970 used for about $199.00
On most other GPU cards, you may have to configure the points where the I/O wiring contacts the card and remove a corner off the card. Plan carefully. Most newer graphic cards are too big to fit in there. It's the height of the card that you need to be concerned about. Hope this helps.

Running a XPS 435MT with a SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 7850 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 Video Card, model 11200-00-20G (the Non OC version, which runs by default at Reference 860MHz Core Clock).
This specific GPU model was explicitly chosen to make sure it would work with the original PSU - it runs at low reference clocks, but is overclockable. The GPU is pushing the limits of what will run with original 360W PSU, but does work with original PSU. FYI, I've never tried to OC the GPU on this machine.
No physical mods were made to get it to fit. Could probably pick up one on ebay.

R series Cards DO NOT WORK with older dells.
They do not support MSDOS VESA Video Mode 103.
Older Radeon HD series 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000, 6000, 7000, 8000 series do not have that limitation.

The Dell Studio xps 435mt needs more power to run newer gpu upgrades. Hate to be honest, I don't know what Dell could be thinking putting such a low watt psu in the machine. The stock HD 4850 overheated, too. Along with the X58 chip it's an oven.
Yeah. Looks like the top of the cap popped. Sometimes the boards still work fine like that. Just not real well. But if that's the only thing that's wrong on the board it doesn't take much to fix it. Just the cap replacement and a soldering iron. Can find the parts online from electronic parts dealer. I still might have an extra board. I gotta check around my garage.
Might I suggest a Northbridge cooler? Silenx IXN40C. Got it on Amazon for $14.00.
The later AMD cards need more watts. The best card I managed to get working in the 435mt is the EVGA Nvidia gtx 970. But that's not without a psu upgrade. I think the first upgraded I did on the 435mt was the psu. It quit pretty early on and replaced it with a Seasonic Gseries 650w.

2008 PC not new, and not UEFI at all.
runs windows 7,? if yes, any added old cards older than that may not have any drivers at all. (w7)
no price limit stated at all. low cost means zero sorry.
a gtx750 is the best OLD cheap card that will not run slower, (has no aux power port)
gaming ?, not stated, or the like , GPU intense applications, if using only MS WORD any card made that has NO AUX power port (ATX12v power jack on top or rear of card ) will work. if not too long, some cards have 2 fans and do not fit vast numbers of PCs (fit fails only)
if you wanted a far better card that runs in the NEXT PC for sure DYI home made, a GTX1050t only uses 75w max! and comes in a very very short card so fits almost ANY PC. (not SSF , talking full sized PC, MT)
The only issue is on new PCs running safe boot will not run old GPU cards but is not this case.
any 75watt card or less, will work, the wiki covers this for ATI or Nvidia.
and a driver to match your W7 is it?
