Decent place for Dell laptop batteries?

I know this question has been posed many times on the spiceworks forums.

A friend emailed me and asked me where a good place to buy a replacement battery for his Inspiron 15R N5110 is. Dell wants $150 for the 9 cell battery.

The 9 cell model is:
Manufacturer Part# : 4T7JN | Dell Part# : 312-0234

The 6 cell model is:
Manufacturer Part# : 9JR2H | Dell Part# : 312-1201

He said the part number on the old battery is: “J1KND”

I know getting replacement batteries is a crapshoot. Any reliable place I can point him? Theres so much crap out there it makes my head hurt.

I’d prefer to find him the 9 cell version. Whenever I search for it, I find a bunch of idiots trying to pass off the 6 cell version as the 9 cell version.

He’s okay with a “compatible” battery, because his current battery is completely dead.

I think the $150 dell wants, although it’s the only sure bet, is a little steep for him. Although I know decent 18650’s are like $10 a piece anyway.

Go straight to Dell. Be aware that Dell has had many battery recalls, and the battery in question may be covered, so look it up first - you might save your friend some money.

It’s a little steep, but for a 9 cell, maybe not too bad. Seems like the manufacturer batteries last a lot longer. That being said, I bought my ThinkPad battery on Amazon. I don’t run on battery much, can’t stand the dimmed screen.

Hi Steve,

As the Inspiron N5110 was first released in 2011, the battery for this system does not fall under any recall program. For more information on battery recalls, please see Dell Product Bulletin: Error

While I can only recommend purchasing batteries direct from Dell, what I can do is give you alternative part numbers if that’s any help for you.

For 9 cell batteries, there are two Dell part numbers: YXVK2 and 9TCXN

For 6 cell batteries, there are the following Dell part numbers: 6P6PN, 4YRJH, JXFRP, 8NH55, 965Y7, JXFRP, GK2X6

The only non-Dell I’ve had luck with is Batteries Plus. It’s usually about half the Dell price (so no $20 piece of crap here) but they’ve worked well. For work I buy Dell until the system is at 4+ years or a spare, then it’s BP or no battery.

I’ve had good luck buying Dell batteries from Parts People www.parts-people.com

I get my parts to fix my Dell laptops from them too.

I agree with Bryan, Batteries Plus is the only place I would trust, unless you can find one at NAPA, for non-Dell batteries. You might find a good deal on genuine Dell batteries on Amazon but you have to be careful and make sure it is a genuine Dell battery when you receive it. If you have any doubts send it back.

The couple times i have tried to save any money buying non dell batteries it has not worked out well and ended up buying the dell in the end anyway.

I have had good luck with Anker batteries, usually from Amazon. They are offered by many different sellers just make sure the brand in Anker.

I had to get a battery replacement for a Dell Vostro, Dell wanted about $150 for it. I tried Newegg.com and I typed in the part # for the battery and had lots of choices. The prices were around $30 - $45 compared to Dell. Only thing is, there were no reviews on any of the batteries. It has yet to come in, until it does I can’t comment on the quality but the price was definitely cheaper.

Does anyone have any comments about batteries in general on Newegg or Dell replacement batteries specifically from them? I would appreciate any input on the subject.

Thanks
