Most cases (not counting the smallest small form-factor cases) will support an ATX form-factor PSU. This defines the height and width of the power supply unit, but not the depth. Make sure the depth of the power supply unit matches your chosen case.

1. 1) Search for your GPU and CPU model's TDP or power draw online.
2. 2) Add 150W for the power usage of your motherboard, fans, memory, storage, and peripherals.
3. 3) Add 150W of headroom.

Add the numbers up, and you now have the PSU power to aim for when choosing your PSU.

Efficiency is the measure of how much power your PSU can direct to components, and how much is converted into heat.

This means that a power supply rated at 80% efficiency is able to provide 80% of the power it draws from the outlet to your PC components, and the remaining 20% is turned into heat.

Choosing a higher efficiency rating saves you money on your power bill and reduces PSU fan noise.

A fully modular power supply unit allows you to freely attach or detach all cables. This reduces cable clutter and makes building and maintenance easier.

Cables are also the only part of the power supply unit that's always visible inside you computer. If you have a specific type of build in mind, you might want to choose a PSU or replacement cables that you're be proud to show off, rather than try to hide.

Power supplies also impact the noise of your PC. A PSU operating close to its maximum rated output will need to ramp up the fan to stay cool.
