When Kivian was hired for a job to get illegal Lethiul crystals , he wouldn't have expected to find his mate. He is headed to Haal Ui Station to met an ooli contact, Jth'Hnai . But as soon as he sees the human slave, Fran, with Jth'Hani he is lost.
In a coup to get the both the crystals and Fran for free, Kivian robs this Ooli contact and heads into space.
Fran isn't sure about her new friend Kivian, but he beats the Ooli. It's only been a few weeks since she was stolen out of her bed and she is slow to trust this turn in fortune.
The ship, The Dancing Fool , heads out into a astroid field to lay low until the hunt for them has calm. It takes a while for the crew of Kivian's ship to come around, but eventually she wins them over.
Over the following weeks Fran begins to feel affection towards Kivian. When the Ooli shows up in the astroid field, the crew board the ship to rob them once again and leave the occupants in stasis. Fran panics with worry while they are gone and realizes she is in love with Kivian.
When he returns he offers to take her back to Earth, despite the danger. She declines wanting to stay with him and become a pirate. They begin to rescue human slaves together.
